Bah Humbug, I say. A day where Melbourne turns stupid and all over some horses running around a grass track. The only really good thing about it is that I get paid to have the day off.
Today the weather is a little on the unpleasant side and this gives me a slight smile. I imagine lots of people dressed up, girls in light spring frocks with silly feathery things stuck to their heads,
high heels sinking to the heel in soggy water drenched ground. Guys in suits with the occasional stupid hat on their head (the guys don't suffer as much as the girls),
people getting a little too drunk making fools of themselves, and of course some people dress up in the ridiculous just to stand out. Way to much money being squandered on betting by people who only ever bet on this race. A mugs game. Traffic banked up for miles and public transport crammed with the above mentioned people all tyring to get to Flemmington to be part of this annual historic day, and when it's finally all over they'll all try to get back home creating the whole traffic and public transport debarcle all over again.
Baaaaaa, baaaaaa, bah humbug I say. And then there is Bart with those eyebrows that almost produce as much oxygen as the Amazon Rain Forest.
At least the seagulls get a good day out.
